The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' (USACE) "Water Manager for a Day" program is a community outreach initiative, such as the one held by the US Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District, that offers members of the public an opportunity to learn about the Corps' water management mission by shadowing employees and attending briefings on Tuesdays. This program provides insight into how USACE manages water resources to ensure effective decision-making for flood control, navigation, and the maintenance of associated projects nationwide.

The George C Wallace Tunnel is a dual-tube tunnel that carries Interstate 10 beneath the Mobile River in Mobile, Alabama. Opened in 1973, it is named after George C. Wallace, the former governor of Alabama. The tunnel is approximately 3,000 feet long and is a critical part of the transportation network, facilitating the movement of vehicles across the region. It is one of the few underwater tunnels in the United States and is notable for its engineering design, which allows it to accommodate a high volume of traffic while maintaining safety and efficiency.
The tour will take participants down a set of descending stairs to see the underground infrastructure, pumps, and monitoring equipment, as they are led by the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT).

Participant will visit the University of South Alabama's Coastal Hydraulics Laboratory, who's goal is to support investigators in pursuit of their studies to answer specific research questions in coastal engineering and science. This major facility is a recirculating 9000 gallon wave-current flume that is 22.7m long (17.5m testing section), 1.5m wide, and 1.0m deep. The testing section has glass walls and a steel bed that produces wave heights more than 0.4m and flow rates up to 110l/s using sophisticated technologies. This facility is capable of modeling wave-structure interactions, sediment transport, wave transformations, morphological response, and other research requirements.

Nestled within the scenic Mobile-Tensaw Delta, Historic Blakeley State Park is one of the largest and most diverse attractions within the Gulf Coast region.
Within these more than 2,000 acres of some of the most biodiverse habitat in North America, the park contains the sites of Alabama's largest Civil War battle, the important early Alabama town of Blakeley, and Native American settlements dating back thousands of years. Nowhere else will you experience such a rare combination of rich cultural heritage and abundant natural beauty.
We invite you to explore the park through more than 20 miles of walking, biking and horseback riding trails by joining us for one of our many boat cruises into the rivers of the delta or through attending our numerous educational programs.

The National Maritime Museum of the Gulf is the only museum in the world dedicated to the rich history and traditions of the Gulf of America. With more than 80 immersive exhibits and interactives, the Museum has something for maritime lovers of every age. During your visit you can pilot a cargo ship up the Mobile River; dive beneath the surface to explore historic shipwrecks; and step inside a ship’s cargo container. And while you’re here, don’t forget to step out onto one of our balconies to see the Port of Mobile in action!

Three Mile Creek Greenway Trail

The Three Mile Creek Greenway Trail is a 6.5-mile linear park that provides access to one of Mobile’s most beautiful natural assets, and will connect existing parks and infrastructure that leads to downtown Mobile and other parts of the Mobile Greenway Initiative.
Advocated for by the community for 35 years, the City has organized an implementation plan, secured funding from multiple sources, and is undertaking design and construction of the greenway in phases. The next phase of trail construction will begin at the terminus of the existing trail, west of Tricentennial Park, and end at University Hospital.

USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park

From its humble beginnings on February 1, 1940 as the keel was laid at the Norfolk Navy Yard in Portsmouth, Virginia, Battleship USS ALABAMA (BB-60) has had a remarkable career. She began her World War II adventures in the North Atlantic in 1943, then later that year, went to the South Pacific seas. She ended up in Mobile, Alabama as a National Historic Landmark and memorial to millions.
